As part of its AUD$330 million ($247.88 million) plan to expand its SkyCity Adelaide property, SkyCity Entertainment Group has announced the signing of a deal that will see Hansen Yuncken Pty Limited serve as the project’s main construction contractor.

Auckland-based SkyCity Entertainment Group is responsible for four casinos in its home nation of New Zealand as well as Australia’s SkyCity Darwin and SkyCity Adelaide and revealed via an official press release that work to enlarge the latter will now begin next month with an expected completion date sometime in 2020.

SkyCity Entertainment Group explained that the project is set to see its SkyCity Adelaide property transformed ‘into a world-class integrated entertainment precinct’ via the addition of a 123-room luxury hotel featuring a spa and VIP gaming facilities as well as a trio of new restaurants and bars.

Luke Walker, General Manager for SkyCity Adelaide, declared that the expansion of the South Australia venue will ‘create a significant draw-card’ for the state of just over 1.7 million people and help it to increase economic development and tourism. He also stated that he is excited about the partnership with Hansen Yuncken Pty Limited because the Melbourne-headquartered construction firm ‘shares our commitment to South Australian jobs and development’.

“The South Australian tourism industry has so much to offer interstate and international visitors and the introduction of this new facility complete with luxury hotel accommodation, outstanding food and beverage offerings and world-class entertainment spaces will help to attract high-end visitors to the exciting Riverbank Precinct and to the state,” read a Monday statement from Walker.

SkyCity Entertainment Group detailed that the SkyCity Adelaide expansion project is to moreover see the adjacent Adelaide Festival Plaza redeveloped via the addition of some 177,600 sq ft of public space near the area’s Adelaide Festival Centre and Parliament House while it has furthermore set aside funds to help remodel the neighboring Adelaide Railway Station.
